The 22-year-old male avoided injury in the crash on Tarleton Street.
He gave a reading of 0.126 – about 2.5 times the blood-alcohol limit.
The man was charged with drink driving and other driving offences.
Arthur Highway speeding ends in a fine
A driver was fined $498 and earned five demerit points after being caught speeding on the Arthur Highway in the state’s south-east.
The driver of a Nissan X-Trail was detected at 93 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone.
Tasmania Police is carrying out Operation Crossroads over the Christmas and New Year’s period.
Senior Sergeant Ian Mathewson said drivers needed to pay attention when on the roads.
“While the majority of Tasmanian drivers and motorcyclists do the right thing on our roads, a small percentage still fail to pay attention to constant messaging regarding safe driving behaviour,” he said.
Tasmania Police encourages motorists to be aware of the “fatal five” factors that are the main contributors to serious and fatal crashes: speed, failing to wear seatbelts or helmets, alcohol and drugs, distraction and fatigue.
In the 2017 Christmas and New Year’s period, there were seven serious injuries but no fatalities on Tasmania roads.
