Trevallyn resident Joanne Beswick said she lived close to Trevallyn Reserve, and woke to find trees damaged and a sign ripped out of the ground.
She said it was devastating to see.
“The [City of Launceston] council has been trying to establish the park and make it beautiful for the local residents,” she said.
She said a group of residents worked with the council to maintain the park.
“It’s just quite a backwards step to see this happen,” she said.
“It’s really awful for the residents to come and see this in the morning.”
Mrs Beswick counted at least nine damaged trees in the park, with five completely broken in half and in need of replacement.
“The residents are quite upset and quite angry that someone would do this to the park,” she said.
“It’s a beautiful park, and we do a lot to beautify it,” she said.
City of Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten said the destructive act was “extremely disappointing”.
“This is a neighbourhood park which is highly utilised by local families,” he said.
Cr van Zetten said the council would assess the damage to the park next week.
“We’d encourage anyone who witnessed activity in the park overnight to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” he said.
