Instead, he ended up with 120 bikes and scooters plus 50 helmets to give to less fortunate families.
Mr Richards said he wanted to thank “every person who helped us out with this crazy idea.”
“Without help this would not have been possible, and now there will be a lot of happy kids at Christmas,” he said.
He collected donations for the presents through his business, MPR Sharpening.
Then, a tow truck was donated by Adam Beechey to transport the gifts to the Launceston Benevolent Society.
“Straight away we had kids and parents turning up and we were hanging out the brand spanking new bikes, and we had smiles for miles,” he said.
“Some of the people definitely left an impression on us, as they had tears of gratitude. It was very humbling to think this was all achieved by people backing me and chipping in with a donation.”
