Detective Inspector Craig Joel said an 18-year-old youth had been charged with aggravated robbery of the driver on Grove Road, Glenorchy, about 2:30am on Monday.
The teenager was set to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court Tuesday morning.
A second 18-year-old was also charged in relation to the burglary.
It’s alleged the taxi driver was punched in the face and received minor facial injuries, as well as having goods and money stolen during the ordeal.
“The driver was going about his business and was set upon by these two youths and possibly three others,” Detective Inspector Joel said.
“The man is shaken but recovering after his ordeal.”
Police are continuing to investigate the possible involvement of the other three youths.
