On Thursday, the council’s general manger Martin Gill officially welcomed the new councillors.
“It’s a very exciting day,” he said. “It’s a new era with a new council.”
Councillor Andrew Connor congratulated all those who ran for council and offered commiserations to those who did not get reelected.
“It’ll be a learning experience for everyone,” he said.
Newly-elected councillor Frank Nott said he was excited to represent the Meander Valley.
Councillors Susie Bower and Tanya King were sworn in earlier during the week as they were unable to make Thursday’s event. Mayor Wayne Johnston, reelected deputy mayor Michael Kelly, councillors Andrew Sherriff, Stephanie Cameron and John Temple make up the rest of the council.
Their first council meeting will be on Tuesday.
