The advertising period for the role closed on Sunday, November 4, mayor Bridget Archer said.
“We have scheduled interview period for the end of this month, so I anticipate it will be early December at the earliest before we know a preferred candidate,” she said.
“There has been a high level of quality interest in the role.”
Former general manager Justine Brooks-Bedelph resigned in August this year, after being in the role for about 12 months.
She resigned to take on a position in the aged-care sector, but has since been elected on to the council as a councillor.
Harry Galea is the council’s current acting general manager.
