Nigel’s Gourmet Butchers’ waygu beef burgers took out the Best Butcher Burgers category and the cajun bacon claimed first place in the Best Bacon category at the Sausage King competition.
An iconic name for many Launcestonians, Nigel Birrell said it was always good to win.
“It is always a bit of fun and obviously it is always good to catch up with the other butchers as well,” he said.
Swapping ideas and techniques with the butchers was one of Mr Birrell’s highlights.
“Everyone will go back to their shops this week with new ideas,” he said.
This year’s competition was held in Hobart on October 20 and butchers from across the state took part.
Mr Birrell was looking forward to receiving detailed feedback from the judges about his burgers and bacon, and some of the products that fell just short.
“You want to know why they are good and how you can improve the product.”
