At the council’s meeting on Monday, alderman Hugh McKenzie moved a unanimous motion to see the council adjust its budget.
A lot of the changes saw money moved from the capital budget into the operational budget. Other projects were budgeted for about six years ago and the cost of doing the work has since increased. The Riverbend Park development also received an extra $400,000.
“The reality of it is that the City of Launceston council performed extremely well in the 2017/18 year where we were able to have a $3.3 million budgeting surplus,” Alderman McKenzie said.
“Whilst it is regrettable that we do have some adjustments, I think the value is that we are running a god business … and we can actually smooth it over.”
