Speed reductions, road closures, traffic controllers, and police will be in place throughout St Helens for triple j’s One Night Stand on Saturday.
Tasmania Police Inspector Michael Johnston said there would be a high police presence at the East Coast town over the coming days, including uniformed and plain clothed police, Drug Investigation Services officers, and drug detection dogs.
Additional police resources will also be rostered to undertake patrols outside the event and around the St Helens area in the lead-up to, and after, the event.
“This is a family friendly, drug and alcohol free event and we will be patrolling the site to ensure everyone’s safety,” Inspector Johnston said.
“Our aim is to get everyone home safely and that includes testing drivers and removing those affected by alcohol and drugs from the roads.”
Speed reductions will be in place at St Helens from 10am August 31 until 10am September 3.
The St Helens township speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/h, the St Helens Sports Complex area to 20 km/h, and 500 metres either side of After Party at 24798 Tasman Highway will be reduced to 60 km/h.
On September 1 traffic controllers will be in place to coordinate traffic throughout St Helens on Cecilia Street, Georges Bay and Medea Cove Esplanade, intersections of Cecilia and Circassian Streets and Warrens Way, corner of Tully Street and Tasman Highway, and the intersection at Tasman Highway and St Helens Point Road.
Road closures will be in place on Young Street from 8am to 11pm on September 1, and Georges Bay Esplanade from 6pm on September 1 to 6am on September 2.
Tully Street, between Young Street and Beaulieu Street, will be a one-way bus lane and shuttle drop-off and pick-up. Beaulieu Street and Warrens Way will also be one-way only.
Several car parking areas will be provided off Tully Street within walking distance to the event for $5.
Parking will also be available on the St Helens District High School’s oval, costing $15 for vans, $10 for cars, and $5 for motorbikes.
Both sites will be managed by community groups.
