The bullmastiff American bulldog cross was at the Launceston RSPCA Animal Care Centre for eight months as he awaited adoption.
He was surrendered to the centre in December after his owners could no longer care for him.
The centre’s cattery team leader Rebecca Kostka said it wasn’t easy to find Neiko a new home, as sometimes people can be put off by bigger dogs.
“He is such a loveable goofball who has such a big heart,” she said.
“When he is in his pen he is a ball of energy, bounding around. But, take him out of the pen and he is a completely different dog.”
Neiko’s adoption was celebrated alongside National Dog Day, which was on Sunday.
In a post on Facebook, RSPCA Tasmania reminisced about Harry, an 18-month-old mid-sized dog who was also waiting for months to be adopted.
Harry was adopted on National Dog Day in 2017.
