After capitalising on the wind take a whopping 45-point lead into quarter time, the Northern Bombers were pulled back in the second and third terms and eventually surrendered the lead early in the final quarter.
But Taylor Whitford’s men rose to the challenge with a convincing illustration of their premiership credentials, romping home to a 17.12 (114) to 11.13 (79) win.
Whitford said his side’s first half had set the game up.
“The second quarter was ok into the breeze, I thought we went out pretty even there and 30 points up at half-time was a good position to be in,” Whitford said.
“Our third quarter was really disappointing, Lauderdale were able to get a lot of momentum and get the ball moving forward ... but credit to our guys for the way that they responded in the last in the wind.”
Karlton Wadley kicked three goals to be the most prolific of North’s seven multiple goalkickers, but it was Arion Richter-Salter and Zach Burt’s work down back that won acknowledgement from Whitford.
“Richter-Salter set us up really well down there, I thought he played a really good role … and coming forward Jordan Cousens was pretty influential and back to his best form which was good to see.”
The Northern Bombers will have next week off after finishing in top spot, while Lauderdale will play Clarence in the elimination final.
