The pre-decimal currency and stamps were stolen from a shed at Moonah in the state’s South.
Tasmania Police said the collection was stolen from a locked cabinet.
As well as valuable coins and notes, the collection included about 50 albums containing stamps dating back to the early 1900s, silver ingots stamped with vintage car impressions, two albums of matchbox covers and a Moscow Olympics coin and stamp collection.
Police are seeking the public’s help with locating the missing items or if anyone observed people acting suspiciously in the area of Moonah’s Johnston Street on Monday night.
