Only two Tasmanians made the under-15 School Sports Australia All-Australian team, and Sam Sherriff was “a bit shaky” when his name was called out as one of them.

The Exeter High School student has been playing for seven years, but counted July’s tournament in Adelaide among his favourite footballing experiences to date.
“It was amazing – probably one of the best experiences I’ve had so far, just getting to know other blokes from all over the state was pretty cool,” Sherriff said.
“We finished fifth overall, which we haven’t done for seven years or something so we went well.”
Harbouring hopes of one day playing AFL, Sherriff said he had been happy to play his role for the Adam Bester-coached under-15s side, which won its fifth-place playoff match against New South Wales by 11 points.
The 15-year-old kicked six goals from five games and was best on ground in a big win over Northern Territory.
“I love footy, it’s awesome,” Sherriff said.
“I support Geelong so I’ve always watched that and I’ve grown up around two older brothers who play footy.
“I play in the forward line mostly and through the middle – I like to think I can snag a couple of goals but I’m not the greatest kick out.”
Sherriff has since returned to the Tamar Demons in the NTJFA under-16s, where he leads his side’s goalkicking and has recorded three best-on-ground performances.
“We’ve got finals coming up so focusing on finals [is my next goal], and hopefully we can get to the big dance and get the bikkies after that.”
