“Our challenge was to create a highly desirable menu, match some spectacular wines in a warm but gothic atmosphere and raise awareness about the needs of StGiles and children with disability,” event organiser Danielle Blewett said.
There are still tickets available for super-premium dinner on Friday, August 3, which it is hoped will raise $20,000 for StGiles Kids Can’t Wait 80th Appeal.
“It will be the lighting, that tells our story – Kids Can’t Wait - and creates a sophisticated mood for what is expected to be one of the great food and wine evenings of the year,” she said.
The lighting has been designed by Launceston firm Sound House. As well as the restaurant’s interior, Ms Blewett said the team wants to illuminate the Mudbar exterior, a section of the boardwalk and the new Seaport Bridge.
Another highlight of the evening will be an interview by ABC’s Roisin McCann with highly respected journalist and author Martin Flanagan. Flanagan, author of 12 books and former columnist with The Age, was raised in Tasmania.
“He’s a passionate Tasmanian who is one of our nation’s great storytellers. We’re delighted he’s agreed to be part of our evening,” Ms Blewett said.
The parents of Emma Barnett, 7, will be among guests who have paid $195 per person to celebrate great food, wine and conversation to help raise significant dollars for children’s disability services at St.Giles.
Jonty and Fiona Barnett are vocal and strong supporters of St.Giles, as Emma has mild cerebral palsy.
They have previously attended StGiles Black Diamond Dinner at St John’s Church and are keen to experience the fine menu and wines donated by Don Cameron at Mudbar to fundraise for StGiles.
“We know the menu will be exceptional and we know the cause is one that can always do with more community support,’’ Mr Barnett said.
