The future of Launceston’s RSCPA Animal Care Centre remains “in the air” according to chief executive Dr Andrew Byrne.

In June The Examiner revealed the centre, which is is currently operating at a loss of about $25,000 a month, could close by August.
At the time, City of Launceston general manager Michael Stretton said temporary measures had been put in place to continue services provided by the shelter, until the end of August.

A report prepared by consulting firm KPMG and commissioned by council, to determine a sustainable financial solution, was expected by the end of June.
However Dr Byrne said he was yet to see the report.
“Our issue is revenue and we are starting to seriously think about what the next few months entails for us, if we are to lose this place,” he said.
City of Launceston general manager Michael Stretton said the council was not in a position to release any information regarding the KPMG report “until we complete our investigation and have engaged with all stakeholders involved”.
