The council said it had received a “letter of inquiry” from the Economic Regulator asking for an explanation about how it manages free camping areas in the West Tamar.
West Tamar Council’s general manager Rolph Vos said the inquiry was in response to a complaint the economic regulator had received from someone else about free camping in the area.
The council was contacted about six weeks ago.
Meander Valley Council banned free camping in the municipality in November last year as a result of a complaint to the regulator.
The ban received a large amount of community backlash, which has resulted in the council having to reinstate camping at a charge in some areas of the region.
