The organisation’s Winter Gala on August 17 will make use of the Art Deco theatre’s expansive lobby to raise money for those doing it tough during the colder months.
The theme for the evening will revolve around two Chicago brothers who were on a self-described mission from God.
“We thought The Blues Brothers was a really good fit for us, because it has a story about two brothers and it has a lot of religious connotations,” City Mission marketing and fundraiser manager Vanessa Cahoon said.
“They’re on a mission from God and I think City Mission can certainly relate to that.
“Most of the people who work within the organisation would have the same motto so to speak.”
Tickets for the event are $70 and include canapes by Matson Catering, a free drink on arrival and live music by Electric Boogaloo.
About 200 people are expected to attend.
Star Theatre co-owner Ben Davis said it was important for private businesses to get behind charity initiatives.
“When we opened the Star Theatre it was about doing something we were really excited about and something we could truly give back to his region and this town,” he said.
“We try to do a fundraiser every month to fit in with that and this is that one.”
Matson’s Catering owner Richard Matson echoed those sentiments.
“It’s important from a local community point of view to help out, because there’s a very real need for funds to help people who are struggling in the community,” he said.
“It’s always ongoing.”
Each year we see more and more people needing help, particularly with accommodation at this point in time.

Ms Cahoon said it was particularly important for the community to think of those less fortunate during the winter period.
“Each year we see more and more people needing help, particularly with accommodation at this point in time,” she said.
“For some people, trying to feed themselves three meals a day is becoming a challenge and it’s not always people who are unemployed.”
Male attendees at the gala are encouraged to wear black suits, fedoras and sunglasses to the event. Tickets are available from eventbrite.com.au.
