Organised by NRM North and Seahorse World, the community event will take place on Saturday and offer visitors a firsthand experience of everything the Tamar has to offer.
With a range of guest presenters, Seahorse World managing director Craig Hawkins said the event was the perfect opportunity to learn more about the river’s unique ecosystems.
“This is a great chance for locals at this end of the river, to engage in conservation and perhaps learn something new about the Tamar,” he said.
“It is an educational event, but we want to make it a lot of fun as well.
“We get terrific support from the community and this is a way for us to give back.”
Among Saturday’s guest speakers will be former Young Australian of the Year Sheree Marris, who will speak about the Tasmania Down Under Project.
The event will also offer a sneak peek into exciting plans to feature the Tamar environment in an upcoming documentary series.
NRM North facilitator Megan Dykman said Tamar Discovery would feature experts from a range of fields, as well as educational games and crafts for children.
“What a lot of people don’t realise is that the Tamar environment is really one of a kind,” she said.
“We have some very special habitats and species right on our doorstep.”
Saturday’s event will be held on the second level of Seahorse World at Beauty Point from 10am to 2pm.
Entry is free, with lucky door prizes and discounted Seahorse World tours also on offer.
