Local theatre company Food-for-Thought Theatre is running the event.
With three young men at the helm, they’ve decided to bring together their experiences of working in hospitality and their theatre degrees.
Hospitality 101: Episode 1 Mental Refreshments is a five-act show and has been a work-in-progress since the start of the year, organiser Tim Crack said.
“We’re focusing on high quality service, which Tassie is known for. At the same time we’ll be touching on mental health just because we have lost a lot of friends,” Crack said.
“At times we will play with the audience and make them feel slightly uncomfortable and at other times we’ll laugh.”
Antionio Zanchetta will also star in the show, alongside Brad Smith. Zanchetta said the comedic show will retell how the theatre company started.
“Basically we’re using the stresses of the hospitality industry, which a lot of people in Launceston can sympathise with, and using that to talk about mental illness.”
The event will include a three-course meal and a drinks package.
“We have a team of about four people to push out the 100 meals that we want to do on the night,” Crack said. “Our main chef will be Kate Brown, she has been working for a hell of a long time in Launceston and currently has her own catering company.”
It was the trio’s love of shows and Tasmanian produce that spiked the idea.
“We love the idea of giving that service throughout the whole show. So to combine the two, just seems silly to do one without the other based on our experience,” Crack said.
Theatre-goers will arrive to a red carpet, with photo opportunities before being shown to their table.
The show will be staged on May 11 and 12. Tickets are $100 and available from Food-For-Thought’s Facebook page.
