The first ever SCADaddle was held at Invermay on Sunday, April 29 to raise funds and awareness for spontaneous coronary artery dissection. During SCAD, a sudden tear occurs within the layers of one or more arteries to the heart.
The tear blocks blood flow, which can lead to cardiac arrest and sometimes death.
Nearly 30 people gathered at Invermay for the five kilometre walk, including four survivors.
Among them was Jillian Coe from Hobart, who has previously organised similar events in the South. She said SCAD was still largely unknown within the community.
“Even within the medical fraternity, there are still a number of people that don’t know much about it,” she said.
More than $1400 was raised from the walk.
