Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten was joined by Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities Paul Fletcher and Senator David Bushby for the symbolic turning of the sod.
Mr Fletcher said the redevelopment was an “investment in the future” aimed delivering jobs and economic growth.

The works form part of the Launceston City Heart Project and has been jointly funded by the federal government, $7.5 million, Tasmanian Government, $5.8 million, and the City of Launceston $6.1 million.
The upgrade includes the construction of a new play area with landscaping, seating and shelters.
The project is expected to be completed by September 2018.
