Auctioneer Neil O’Brien said they had “quite an eclectic collection” for the upcoming auction.

“The majority came from a couple of main places,” Mr O’Brien said.

“Both were deceased estates. One in the Midlands, the other in Longford.”

Mr O’Brien said a lot of the items were from the convict period, alongside bushranger and gold rush-related items.

“This is easily one of the best collections, along with the art and furniture were have acquired, that we have offered for auction in our rooms for several years,” he said. 

“All of these collectors’ items will be fought over.”

Mr O’Brien said his favourite piece was a shop display of Boomerang mouth organs, dating back to the “very early” 1900s.

“These things just don’t come up. You just do not see them,” he said.

Mr O’Brien said other standout items included an original Haughton Forrest oil painting, a John Glover watercolour, the instrument panel from a Hawker Hurricane aircraft, and a Georgian sterling silver urn.

An iron Armada chest was also among the collection.

“We’ve never seen one before. They just don’t come up here [in Tasmania],” Mr O’Brien said.
