Shane Allen Wheldon has been charged with aggravated burglary, assault, stealing, and assaulting and resisting police.
The 39 year old man fronted the Launceston Magistrates Court on Tuesday before Magistrate Ken Stanton who detailed the allegations against Mr Wheldon.
The court heard he was accused of breaking into three homes on Monday afternoon.
It was alleged he forced his way into a house in Lamont Street before entering a property in Oswald Street, which was owned by a 90-year-old woman.
It was at that second address police allege Mr Wheldon assaulted a 66-year-old painter who was working at the back of the property before going inside and striking the elderly owner in the head, causing her to fall to the floor unconscious.
Mr Wheldon then allegedly fled the scene and broke into another property in Mann Street where he was arrested.
During the arrest a constable was allegedly punched in the face multiple times and suffered injuries to his face and hand. The elderly woman was admitted to hospital on Monday night and was in a serious, but stable condition on Tuesday.
Mr Wheldon did not enter pleas to any of the charges, but applied for bail.
Mr Stanton refused his application and Mr Wheldon was remanded in custody until his next appearance on April 30.
