Empire Hotel owner Mark Flanigan is offering free platypus tours every day starting from his pub.
Mr Flanigan said there was a group of about six platypuses living in the Meander River.
“Most nights we get a sighting of a platypus,” he said.
“They’re notoriously shy, but here in Deloraine they seem to have become used to people coming around.
“People just find it fabulous that there’s a healthy population of them in the middle of town.”
Mr Flanigan said the tours usually start an hour before sunset.
