It’s a tradition dating back 55 years, which has year 12 students walking from Deloraine to the school campus in Mowbray overnight.
While many arrived with a few blister and bleary-eyed on Thursday morning, Declan Underwood, 17, said it was worth the effort to help young people affected by mental health issues.
Tasmanian positive mental health charity SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY would receive the funding raised by the walkathon, a gofundme page and any other fundraising event, Underwood said.
The school’s new headmaster, Richard Ford, joined more than 70 students on the walk.
“It’s a rite of passage [for the students],” Mr Ford said.
Along the way, he met a former student who whipped out a photo of their walk back in 1982, he said.
He wanted to thank the parents and supporters for helping to keep the students motivated and assisting with the walk.
The year 12 class will host a cocktail evening on April 6 from 6.30pm with a silent auction, music, food and drinks.
