The Medical Council of Tasmania Medical Student Scholarship is worth $40,000 over the course of the five-year degree.
Mr Cser, who grew up on a small farm in Upper Esk just outside of Launceston, said the scholarship was a big boost for his family.

“I came to Hobart with my sister who is also studying first-year medicine, so the scholarship has definitely helped me with moving here and studying and has assisted my family,” he said.
“We are 11 months apart in age so we are in the same course, same year and sharing a house.”
Mr Cser said he hopes to pursue a career in paediatrics or anaesthesiology.
