In January, the festival sought $2 million a year for four years from Events Tasmania to make the event a permanent feature in the North.
The festival was held in Launceston for the first time in its nine years in 2018.
On Tuesday, Labor announced to The Examiner it would meet the $8 million request.

Party leader Rebecca White said having the festival in the North would generate increased economic activity, tourist numbers, and valuable international recognition.
“It was a Labor government that backed the original Mona Foma before the world had even heard of the Museum of Old and New Art. It was also Labor that supported Dark Mofo in the middle of winter,” Ms White said.
“The twin festivals have become massive drawcards for tourists and locals alike and have led to significant marketing exposure for Hobart. Now there is an opportunity to bring that cultural revolution to Northern Tasmania.”
Ms White said her party supported Mona’s vision to create the world’s most talked about festival in Launceston.
The state government committed $1 million for the Northern move for Mofo 2018.
The event has been held in Hobart since 2009, and has received funding from Events Tasmania from successive governments since.
