At a leaders forum in Hobart on Friday, Greens leader Cassy O’Connor recounted a story of a women who she saw sitting in a cardboard box at Parliament House yesterday, hurling abuse at the glass doors and saying "nobody cares, nobody cares".
Ms O'Connor said the woman was due to be evicted from her home in early March, and despite going through the relevant support services, nobody was able to help her.
As for the broader rental market, the party wants to see rent increases linked to the Consumer Price Index.
The party also wants leases to be relaxed so people can more easily rent places which allow for pets.
Ms O’Connor said pets make people healthier and happier and should be allowed to keep them in rental properties.
