On Saturday the master sugar artist from Sydney will present a special demonstration for the Northern branch of the Cake Decorators Association of Tasmania.
One of the four original entrepreneurs who opened Planet Cake in Sydney, Carter will be demonstrating her cake skills along with fellow award-winning cake artist Cara Schneider from Carasmatic Cake Studio.
Northern CDAT president Claudine Ball said the opportunity to have both guests was too good to pass up, with the demonstration specifically designed for CDAT members.
“We are very lucky to have both of these women in Tasmania,” she said.
“Margie Carter is like the queen of the cake world for us, so it is incredibly exciting.
“She is a true artist and works in many mediums but sugar art and cake decorating is where she has made her mark.”
With more than 100 members statewide and about 40 in the Northern branch, the CDAT has been bringing cake enthusiasts together for almost 40 years.
Mrs Ball said the association provided a wonderful opportunity for anyone with a passion for cake decorating to share their skills and develop some new ones.
“I have had an interest in cake art since I was 16-years-old,” she said.
“There is just something about working with different fondants that is just so satisfying. I call it mummy playdough.
“It is definitely a skill that needs to be learned and that is what’s so wonderful about CDAT.”
Mrs Ball said Saturday’s demonstration would be a fun day of cake art and is open to everyone.
“Margie will demonstrate how to carve, model, cover and airbrush a horse’s head then how to dress a unicorn,” she said.
“The demonstration will be split up over the day sharing with our other guest demonstrator Cara Schneider.
“This will be a very informative and fun day watching one of Australia’s leading sugar artists at work and at play.”
The demonstration will run from 9am to 4pm and the Northern Suburbs Community Centre and is open to everyone.
