The onesies were created by artist Adele Varcoe to promote unity and “onesie-ness” at the Block Party.

The Block Party was exactly what one would expect from a MONA event, with musical performances, art, light shows, and great food.

The major drawcard of the event was Milwaukee punk rockers the Violent Femmes, whose bassist Brian Ritchie is a festival curator.

“This is our first incursion up here, and obviously it’s a big success,” Ritchie said.

“We’ve had good crowds at the Gotye show and at Monumental with really great responses.

“People are smiling and having a good time, and everyone is getting involved [at the Block Party] by wearing these onesies,” he said.

Other acts on the lineup included Slag Queens, Medhanit Barratt, Emma Anglesey, Robin Fox’s Single Origin lazer and sound show, and Mali act Bassekou Kouyate and Ngoni Ba.

Ritchie said the planned MONA FOMA relocation to Launceston next year “should be fun”.

“We’ve accomplished what had to accomplish in Hobart, and that will continue because we have the museum there,” he said. “It’s not like Hobart is going to go missing.”

“But, to hold something up here [Northern Tasmania] that’s significant – it’s a game changer.

“It gets a lot of the audience up and running, and people enjoy it, so why not?”

MOFO will continue in Hobart with events at MONA and Faux Mo taking place from January 19.
