The state’s Parks and Wildlife Service has reiterated the danger that campfires can present, when it comes to starting bushfires.
With a combination of dry conditions on the East Coast and its popularity among campers, the service has listed it as a “particular concern” this summer.
Fire duty officer Eddie Staier said the most important thing campers could do was be aware of weather conditions and current fire bans.
“If we are experiencing hot, dry and windy weather conditions it is likely that fire bans will be in place and campfires are not allowed under these conditions because of the risk of escape,” Mr Staier said.
He said officers would be patrolling campgrounds around the state for unattended fires, fires that had not been properly put out, and fires during fire bans.
He added that staff will also be actively patrolling arson hot-spots.
