The man was travelling along Acton Road on Thursday afternoon when he veered off the road and crashed through a wire fence.
He was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital by ambulance, but later died.
A 36-year-old Midway Point man was a passenger in the ute at the time of the crash, but was not physically injured.
Tasmania Police said anyone who witnessed the crash about 1.20pm Thursday at Acton Park should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
