A Launceston couple accused of stealing more than $56,000 from a northern athletics club have faced court.

Simon Brewer Phillips and Catherine Faye Phillips appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court this week, each charged with stealing by misappropriation of funds.
Court documents reveal Mr Phillips is accused of stealing $21,725.33 from the Newstead Athletics Club, formerly known as the Newstead Harrier Club.
The theft allegedly took place between March 1, 2010 and July 25, 2014.

Appearing before Magistrate Sharon Cure, Mr Phillips pleaded not guilty through his defence lawyer Mark Doyle.
Mr Doyle requested the matter be adjourned for contest mention on November 28.
Mrs Phillips also appeared before Magistrate Sharon Cure, but did not enter a plea.
Court documents show she has been accused of stealing $34,433.33 from the athletics club between December 14, 2009 and July 25, 2014.
Her matter was adjourned until November 7.
