The choir is preparing to celebrate its 10th anniversary with a special concert.
City Mission youth and outreach supervisor Tyson Sim said the choir was inspired by the Choir of Hard Knocks.
“Everyone needs a sense of belonging,” Mr Sim said.
Regularly between 30 and 40 people would attend the weekly choir practices, he said.
The concert would be an important acknowledgement of the milestone the choir reached, Mr Sim said.
Choir singer Graeme Briton has been involved in the choir since his wife Merelyn established it with a small group.
The choir transformed some people and helped them to develop themselves, giving them added confidence, Mr Briton said.
There was no pressure to be an first-rate vocalist, Mr Briton said.
“You don’t even have to sing in tune.”
Choir singer David Henty said the choir was like a small community, which supported each other.
The choir was free to join and was based on companionship with a mixed group of people, he said.
- The Choir of High Hopes Ten Year Anniversary Concert will be held at Launceston Tramshed’s Function Centre on Saturday, September 2 at 3pm. The public are welcome and entry is by donation.
