Acting president of the Harvest committee Mary Mulvaney said the market will continue to have the same amount of space but it will be configured differently.
“We’ve been talking to council and Todd (Henderson) the architect over the last couple of months and council will facilitate us buy re-aligning the market, so instead of going across the building site it will go from Cimitiere Street to Cameron Street and we will block off that Cameron Street car park,” she said.
“We are working comfortably with both the architect and council to make sure everything goes ahead with minimum impact on the market which is good.”
Ms Mulvaney said the committee had been “really pleased” with the regular contact with both the council and developers.
“It has been a postive journey, we are really happy with how the market has unfolded over the last five and a half years now and this is just the next stage,” she said.
“There will be some things that may well be better because we will have two electrical points instead of one and it will be a little bit more designed around what the market needs rather than it just being a car park.”
The market also already had a close relationship with Hotel Verge Launceston’s architect.
“Todd Henderson from Cumulus Architects is a regular market goer and actually designed the toilet for us so he understands the operational aspects of the market,” Ms Mulvaney said.
“We had a meeting last week and he took us through the development proposal and things like the fencing between us and the building site we are working to make that as attractive as possible and the hotel is setback from that fence and that will minimise shadow impact on the market as much as it can.”
