Police are continuing to warn road users about icy conditions across the state.
Drivers have been urged to take care on the following roads in the north, due to ice:
- Batman Highway (Batman Bridge) – proceed with caution
- Elephant Pass Road - proceed with caution
- Poatina road (Main Road to village) – proceed with caution
- Tasman Highway (North of St Helens) – proceed with caution
- Lake Leak Road – proceed with extreme caution
- Highland Lakes Road (Golden Valley and Half Moon Creek) – proceed with extreme caution
The Bureau of Meteorology also issued a road weather alert for parts of the state as a result of icy conditions.
Areas likely to be affected by ice on Sunday morning include parts of the North-West Coast, Central North, North-East, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South-East forecast districts.

UPDATE SATURDAY 10am: The Bureau of Meteorology has cancelled the road weather alert for the North-West coast, West, and South-East forecast districts.
EARLIER: Temperatures have plummeted across Tasmania overnight, causing hazardous driving conditions on Saturday morning.
Launceston reached -2.17 degrees overnight, Devonport clocked a low of -4.4, Fingal -7, and Liawenee upheld its reputation as the coldest town in Tasmania with -10 degrees.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a road weather alert for most of the state.
The bureau has warned that icy roads will create dangerous driving conditions, with black ice likely to be extensive, due to recent rainfall in some parts of the state.
On Friday, a woman died in the state’s South in a crash believed to be caused by black ice on the road.
Tasmania Police has also urged motorists to slow down, and drive to the conditions.
It issued a community alert for icy roads in the North in the following locations:
- Batman Bridge - proceed with caution
- Blessington Road - proceed with caution
- Elephant Pass Road - proceed with caution
- Lake Leak road - proceed with caution
- Higland Lakes Road (Golden Valle/Half Moon Creek) - proceed with extreme caution
- Meander Valley Road (Travellers Rest) - proceed with caution
- Poatina Road (Main Road to village) - proceed with extreme caution
The North-West:
- Lyell Highway – Derwent Bridge to Queenstown – proceed with caution
And these locations in the South:
- Algona Main Road – proceed with caution
- Arthur Highway – proceed with caution
- Channel Highway – proceed with caution
- Glen Huon Road – proceed with caution
- Gordon River Road – proceed with caution
- Grass Tree Hill Road – proceed with caution
- Highland Lakes Road (secondary Road) – proceed with extreme caution
- Huon Highway (Glendevie south) – proceed with caution
- Lyell Highway (Sorrel Creek) – proceed with extreme caution – heavy ice
- Lyell Highway (Marlborough junction to Derwent Bridge and Ouse to Marlborough) – proceed with extreme caution
- Lymington Road – proceed with caution
- Nicholls Rivulet Road – proceed with caution
- Southern Outlet – proceed with caution
- Tasman Highway – proceed with caution
The following roads are closed:
- Lake Dobson Road, Cradle Valley (from information area to summit car park).
