The generosity of Northern Tasmania residents has been evident with more than 600 food items donated to drop-off points since the campaign launched on May 1.
City Mission chief executive Stephen Brown said the service had been inundated with goodwill and generosity during the first week of the campaign.
He said the donations meant people using the group’s services would not go hungry during the cold season.
“It’s really started to restock all of our shelves ahead of winter,” Mr Brown said.
“We’re a month ahead of where we’d be normally.
“People have been picking up on the promotion and responding in a number of ways which has been great.”
With an increase in the number of donations expected, the 606 items provided during week one keeps the six-week campaign on target to reach 5000.
The campaign will finish on June 11.
