Lyons and Bass are also set for big changes.

A redistribution committee for the Australian Electoral Commission has recommended that the areas of Port Sorell, Northdown, Sassafras and the Narawntapu National Park be taken from the largely rural electorate of Lyons and added to North-West and West Coast electorate Braddon.

Kentish would remain the major area of what is widely regarded as the North-West not be to part of Braddon.

The town of Latrobe is already in Braddon, but the municipality was split in a redistribution at the turn of the decade which brought the West Coast into Braddon from Lyons.

One of the committee’s aims is to have similar numbers of voters in the state’s five House of Representatives electorates.

Its redistribution proposal said the Latrobe municipality change would shift a projected 4706 voters from Lyons into Braddon.

It said Braddon would needed to gain between 1003 and 6391 voters by May 2021 to fall within the permissible range for maximum and minimum numbers of voters required by the Electoral Act.

Lyons residents can expect sweeping changes if the committee’s proposals are adopted.

The committee proposes shifting 5867 voters into Lyons from the Launceston-focused electorate of Bass by including the Flinders and Dorset council areas in Lyons.

Lyons would also gain Old Beach (2705 voters) and Richmond (1354 voters) from Southern electorate Franklin.

Bass would gain 7828 voters from Lyons.

The proposal would unite the West Tamar Council area  in Bass.

Bass would gain Badger Head, Beaconsfield, Bridgenorth, Frankford, Glengarry, Greens Beach, Grindelwald and York Town.

Bass would then include the full Launceston, George Town and West Tamar municipalities, plus part of Meander Valley.

The AEC  also considered whether to retain the names of the five electorates, and proposed retaining them.

It will accept written objections to its proposals  until 6pm on June 2.

The process will roll on in various stages, with final determinations to be published on November 14.
