I have noticed that people respond more to songs they are familiar with (mainly 60s and 70s party music), judging by the crowd dancing in front of the stage and around the ground. Perhaps more of that would be good. I have attended 25 consecutive Festivales.

Hare Clark
LEONARD Colquhoun is wrong to say the purpose of elections is to create "stable administrations" (Letters, February 4). If that's the goal, why not just appoint a dictator for life? The purpose of elections is to express the will of the people. It is then up to the people we elect to sought out the best government.
This is why Hare Clark is the best electoral system in the world - it is the most representative. Tasmania doesn't have Hare Clark because we are "exceptional" (to use Mr Colquhoun's word). We have Hare Clark because, at our best, we are leaders showing the world how to be more democratic.
Rodney Croome, South Hobart.
CH Smith
HERE we go again, just as the CH Smith development appears set to become a reality, the Heritage Protection Society is trying to derail the process with petty objections. Along with the Greens philosophy of trying to ban any new developments in this state, maybe Tasmania should be renamed ‘Banana’.
Russell Parker, Summerhill.
Hobart Road
THE updated section of Hobart Road between Opossum Road and the new pedestrian lights at Meadows Mews is a nightmare to travel.
Drivers will block the intersections near McDonald's and also Cash Converters causing a problem if you are trying to cross at the pedestrian crossing with the green walk sign or if you are driving in the opposite direction you can't get past them.
