Thanks to the Tasmania Fire Service’s School Fire Education Program, which was launched for 2017 this week, children across the state will learn how to stop, drop, rock and roll, and crawl low and go, go, go.
This year, four full-time education officers, including Aaron Parry in the North, will speak to almost 20,000 students in more than 90 schools.
Mr Parry and the team cover all the basics – the importance of smoke alarms, remembering to dial triple-zero in an emergency, knowing your exits, and having an escape plan.
“Another thing we talk about is how to treat a burn, putting it under water for at least 20 minutes, and most kids remember that,” Mr Parry said.
"Also, so many kids will have chargers for their phones in their room and we push not to have them charging there overnight.”
