Senators, MHRs and Opposition spokespeople will spend two days travelling up and down the Tasmanian coast as part of the Labor Country Caucus.
Opposition agriculture, fisheries and forestry spokesman Joel Fitzgibbon will be joined by Country Caucus chairwoman Justine Elliot, Senators Anthony Chisholm, Chris Ketter, Malarndirri McCarthy, and MHRs Shayne Neumann, Stephen Jones, Lisa Chesters and Meryl Swanson.
Tasmanian Senators Anne Urquhart and Helen Polley, and MHRs Justine Keay, Brian Mitchell and Ross Hart will also join in the event.
The trip will kick off with a trip to the Petuna Group in Devonport, followed by Botanical Resources Australia at Ulverstone, Costagroup Berry Operations at East Devonport, the Kentish Council Chambers, and finally a visit to Enchanted Isle Farms at Forth.
Ms Keay said the Country Caucus was a good way talk about rural and regional issues with her interstate counterparts.
“Country Caucus will also undertake a planning session to discuss key policy issues such as regional jobs, education, services and sustainable profitable agriculture,” Ms Keay said.
“Following last year’s floods and what is a critical time for the agriculture sector, we need to be listening to our farmers and regional communities as much as possible.”
