Across the state more than 59 per cent of the network is ready for service, with planning or construction underway in all other parts of Tasmania.
NBN corporate affairs manager for Tasmania Russell Kelly said Launceston was now one of the most connected regional cities in Australia.
“It is a tremendous opportunity for Launceston, and especially business, which now has a world of possibility for growth and innovation,” Mr Kelly said.
Launceston Chamber of Commerce executive officer Jan Davis said it was a positive step for businesses and residents.
“This makes Launceston one of the first cities in Australia to get the best possible internet access and the potential is only limited by our imagination,” she said.
Mr Kelly said NBN work would continue across the greater Launceston region.
