Students are encouraged to read one book a week until August 23.
Almost 32,000 pupils from 163 schools signed up for the challenge last year.
The program was designed to instill a lifelong love of learning in children, whether they are reading novels or picture books.
Summerdale Primary School grade 4 pupil and bookworm Madison West, 9, said she was enjoying the challenge so far.
“Reading interests me lots and I like to read everything,” Madison said.
“I usually read about two books a week.”
