At 12:29pm the male - riding a green Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R towards the East Coast - failed to negotiate a sweeping right hand bend, veered off the road and collided with a tree.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, approximately 20 km east along Lake Leake Highway from Campbell Town.
The man was riding with a group of associates from Sharon, Queensland, who were heading to the East Coast to camp, Tasmania Police said.
"From information obtained from witnesses at the scene it appears that speed was a contributing factor," police said.
EARLIER: Police have advise Lake Leake Highway is now open to traffic.
A MOTORCYCLIST has died after a crash on Lake Leake Highway this afternoon.
Tasmania Police said the crash was called in at about 12.30pm.
The crash occurred about ten minutes east of Campbell Town.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Lake Leake Highway will be closed at the Midland Highway Campbell Town intersection until further notice.
It is understood that people are being diverted to the East Coast via the Esk Highway.
