When their mother died suddenly in 2010 they had to make the tough decision whether to allow her organs to be donated.
The pair are now pushing for others to ‘‘have the chat’’ with their family on what their wishes would be.
Ms Absolom and Ms Free joined about 50 other donors, recipients and their families at Government House in Hobart on Monday to celebrate DonateLife week.
Ms Absolom said her family decided to proceed with the donation.
‘‘As a result of our decision mum was able to donate two corneas, two kidneys and a liver,’’ she said.
‘‘We have since received beautiful anonymous cards from two of mum’s recipients and this confirmed our decision was the right one,’’ she said.
Governor Kate Warner said she had now had a discussion with her family.
‘‘At any one time 1600 Australians are on transplant waiting lists,’’ Professor Warner said.
■DonateLife week runs until Sunday.
