The 25-year-old dancer, who is working with pop superstar Katy Perry, spoke to the cast of the Launceston Musical Society’s upcoming production of Legally Blonde The Musical before rehearsals at Newstead College about what it takes to make it in his profession.
Brownlie, who grew up at Norwood, said it was special to share his journey in this way, and that the musical society was one of the stepping stones to his current fame.
‘‘I’m just here to tell them that as Tasmanians we can go off and do these exciting things,’’ Brownlie said.
‘‘This is what I wanted to hear when I was younger, and it is always good to have that inspiration as we have a lot of talent here.
‘‘These musicals are a good stamping ground, because you have these musicals that happen two or three times a year, so they can get into the theatre and do things that as a profession come naturally once you get a job.’’
Brownlie said he was hoping to make these talks a regular event on his trips back home. He is holding a workshop in Hobart on August 8, which he hopes to bring up to Launceston in the future.
Legally Blonde The Musical will be performed at the Princess Theatre from September 2-5.
Tickets are available from the Princess Theatre Box Office on 63233666.
