An exodus of premiership players over the summer left Turners Beach a shadow of last year's team and it showed on the scoreboard, with 13 goal scorers for Motton Preston.
It was a similar defeat for West Ulverstone which matched its rival East Ulverstone with intensity, but was outplayed in most other facets of the game to beaten comprehensively 33.8 (206) to 3.9 (27).
For the Crows it was a win driven by superior ball skills and team work as coach Toddy Auton constantly used the interchange bench to ease his players into the season opener. Jamie Auton with 10 goals and Josh Horton (seven) led a potent forward line which set the tone of the match from the start.
In other results Forth and Rosebery Toorak made winning starts to their year by predictably landing the four premiership points, although for different reasons.
Forth faced an undermanned Wesley Vale which was missing several senior players through unavailability, whereas Spreyton simply did not have the firepower to trouble Rosebery Toorak.
