``Don’t be frightened of work, help others when you can and be positive about life, not negative,'' she said, following her party in St Marys last Sunday.
Prior to her birthday on Monday, Mrs Finney was joined by a large crowd - including her closest friends and family - at the St Marys Sports Centre where her long and happy life was celebrated.
Mrs Finney was born in St Helens and grew up in Pyengana.
She journeyed across the North and the East Coast over the next 80 years, eventually settling in St Marys eight and a half years ago.
She is a mother, a grandmother and a twin sister.
On Sunday, Mrs Finney described her birthday party as a ``wonderful surprise''.
``It was such a memorable day. Lots of secrets were kept from me so there were many wonderful surprises throughout the day, including being presented with birthday acknowledgements from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, The Honourable Eric Hutchinson, MHR; and Tania Rattray ,MLC.''
``I feel privileged to reach 100 and remember back over the years. I have so many great memories.''
