The council received a flooding report from engineer Terry Eaton at its meeting yesterday outlining a range of works to take place on both private and council-owned land.
The works are intended to alleviate flooding issues in the Translink area.
Northern Midlands Deputy Mayor David Downie said the problems had been highlighted last August when a large amount of rainfall affected the area in a short space of time.
"The council is very conscious of that area, it's a very important area. We've attracted a lot of development there, and we're now keen to . . . solve these drains issues that are there," he said.
"You've got to go back to where we started. Twenty years ago that was a paddock, and now I think there has been over $1 billion worth of investment there, and the planning for the drainage probably hasn't kept up to the development that's gone in there."
Cr Downie said a time frame had not been allocated for the works, and stressed that subsequent reports could be undertaken in the future to further improve the area.
"The bigger picture is that Translink is an important area to the Northern region of Tasmania ... and the council's going to act responsibly in ensuring that area is going to be able to handle drainage problems into the future," he said.
Some works have already been completed.
