Ms Murray went head-to-head with 30 young hopefuls in a series of modelling, personality and intellect challenges, to see who would go on to represent Australia at the international Miss Universe titles later this year.
While the 18-year-old did not make the top 10, she said she was greatly appreciative of the opportunity to compete in her first Miss Universe Australia competition, but excited to return home after almost a week away.
``The whole week was such a great experience, with pros and cons,'' she said.
``But in the long run, it's important to be humble rather than win and all the girls did so well and are all so gorgeous.''
The eventual winner, Tegan Martin, finally tasted success after three years of returning and competing in the finals.
But Ms Murray said she was content with her experience and would now focus on her university studies, with a degree in art history on her mind.
``We spent the whole day everyday in heels, so we had a lot of blisters.
``We had rehearsals everyday from 9am to 5.30pm at the earliest and even 8.30pm at the latest.
``I'm glad to be going home tomorrow [today] and getting in my ugg boots.''
Hobart's LaShai Howard also missed out on a place in the final 10.
